Seijun Suzuki retrospective in L.A. from February 5th to March 13th

Branded to Kill (1967)

UCLA Film & Television Archive; the Freer and Sackler Galleries, Smithsonian Institution; Japan Foundation; and UCLA Terasaki Center for Japanese Studies present Action, Anarchy, and Audacity: A Seijun Suzuki Retrospective, which will screen Friday, February 5 – Sunday, March 13 at the Billy Wilder Theater in Westwood Village.

This upcoming series provides a rare opportunity to experience the innovative and audacious work of Japanese director Seijun Suzuki onscreen. Devotees of Suzuki’s free-wheeling approach include directors Jim Jarmusch and Quentin Tarantino and influential titles featured in the series will include: Branded to Kill (1967), Tokyo Drifter (1966) and Gate of Flesh (1964).

The series is curated by Tom Vick, the curator of film at the Freer and Sackler Galleries of the Smithsonian Institution, and co-organized with the Japan Foundation. Mr. Vick will appear in person on February 21st and 22nd.

This series previously ran in New York at the Film Society of Lincoln Center from November 6-17, 2015.
